Traveling with hearing loss can be challenging, but planning ahead makes a big difference.

  • Before You Go: Make reservations early, preferably through a travel agent. Get written confirmations and bring them with you.

  • Transportation: Inform ticket agents and flight attendants you are hearing impaired so they can notify you of announcements personally.

  • Lodging: Let hotels know in advance about your hearing loss. Some offer visual alert devices for emergencies. Always bring a printed copy of your reservation.

  • Activities: Check if attractions offer assistive listening devices or bring your own. FM systems and portable TV radios may be helpful.

  • Hearing Aids: Pack cleaning tools, extra batteries, and a dehumidifier. Carry hearing aids in your hand luggage and inform security staff at checkpoints.

While You Travel

Traveling with hearing loss is manageable with advance planning, including notifying transportation and lodging staff, bringing assistive devices, and packing hearing aid essentials.
